Common Electrical Code Violations Found in Florida Homes

Electrical code violations are common in Florida homes, especially older ones. Here are the most frequent violations we find and how to fix them.

    1. Double-Tapped Breakers

Two wires in a single breaker lug is a fire hazard. Fix: install a tandem breaker or add a subpanel.

    2. Missing GFCI Protection

Kitchens, bathrooms, garages, and outdoor outlets without GFCI are code violations. Fix: install GFCI outlets or breakers.

    3. Missing AFCI Protection

Bedrooms and living areas require AFCI breakers. Fix: upgrade breakers to AFCI-rated models.

    4. Improper Grounding

Ungrounded outlets and missing ground rods are safety hazards. Fix: upgrade grounding system and install grounded receptacles.

    5. Overloaded Circuits

Too many devices on one circuit violates code. Fix: add dedicated circuits and redistribute loads.

    6. Incorrect Wire Size

Wire gauge must match breaker amperage. Fix: replace undersized wiring or correct breaker size.
